Dynamic QR codes: when they are worth it and when they are not
Dynamic QR codes are worth it when a code is printed, distributed or measured and the destination may need to change later. For simple fixed destinations, static codes are often enough.

A dynamic QR code is worth it when the code will live longer than the first destination URL. That is usually the case once a code appears on printed material, packaging, menus, tickets, signage or campaign assets. At that point it is not enough for the code to work today. You also need a way to control it tomorrow.
The short answer
Use static QR codes for simple destinations that will not change. Use dynamic QR codes when you want to edit the destination later, measure scans, separate campaigns or run the scan through your own domain. The decision is less about technology and more about how expensive a mistake would be after printing.
When a dynamic QR code makes sense
- The code is printed and cannot be replaced easily later.
- The destination may change because of new campaigns, products or landing pages.
- You want to understand when, how often and on which devices people scan.
- Several teams, clients or locations need separate reporting.
- The scan should use a custom domain so the URL matches the brand.
When a static QR code is enough
Static QR codes are not worse. They are simply different. If the destination is fixed and you do not need reporting, a static code is often the cleanest option. It stores the information directly in the code and does not need a redirect layer.
